Karl Simko
Artistic Director with musical background
Artistic director and DoP
As a graduated cellist, Karl Simko was involved in a wide variety of musical genres, which led to a steadily growing interest in videography within a musical context. This fascination finally led him to devote himself exclusively to video production and to found MuDi_productions in order to present artists of various musical dimensions.
In 2020, Karl swapped his cello for a film camera and began filming musicians close to him. In the years that followed, the initially smaller projects turned into larger productions for baroque orchestras, chamber music ensembles and established soloists, who benefit from his experience in the classical music sector and his unbridled passion for this genre.
In his role as Artistic Director and Director of Photography, Karl tirelessly works with MuDi_productions to develop innovative video concepts in order to present classical music in a digitally appealing, authentic and modern way. His passion for videography is reflected in every detail of his work. From the choice of camera angles to post-production and the creative design of the visual narrative. He is not interested in documenting classical music, but in presenting it in a new light, making it accessible to a wider audience and thus meeting the demands of our rapidly changing digital world.
For the future, Karl has a clear focus on authenticity and visual brilliance. He will not only rely on MuDi's established standards, but also use the possibilities of modern technologies to keep the boundaries of video production in a musical context up-to-date.
Cellist
Karl Simko grew up in a family of musicians and was naturally drawn to music. He chose the violoncello as his instrument and developed a passion for baroque music, to which he will always remain connected.
During his cello studies, Karl and his quartet 4 Times Baroque performed at numerous European festivals such as the Rheingau Music Festival, the Thüringer Bachwochen, the Mozartfest Würzburg, the Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, the Opus Amadeus Oda Müziği Festivali in Istanbul and others, and was part of the European program Eeemerging. The quartet's second album Caught in Italian Virtuosity was awarded the OPUS KLASSIK Prize in the Young Artist of the Year category in 2018.
Simultaneously, being a member of the crossover band TwoPlusFour at Sony Classical brought him into contact with the world of pop music. He works regularly with the Modern String Quintet and Florian Christl, an up-and-coming artist from Munich. His career has taken him to perform all over the world, in Europe, Asia and South America.
Over the years, he has taken part in television programs such as ZDF Morgenmagazin and ARTE Stars von Morgen and has performed live on SWR, HR2 and Deutschlandfunk.
